Original Poem | Hope, Happiness, and a Certain Kind of Sadness

Hi! I hope you’re having an absolutely beautiful day today ❤ Today has been an exciting day for me ~ I’m writing this in the middle of a hackathon (I needed a break since it’s been eight hours and there are still five left to go !). I’ve been wanting to do a hackathon for quite some time, and it’s been pretty fun, especially because I’m doing it with one of my good friends 🙂

I haven’t posted an original poem in a while, but they’re back (I’ll probably be posting new poems for the next couple weeks since I’ve already written them and midterm season is coming up)! If you’re new, I’ve started writing semi-consistently over the past year (probably because it’s been quite the emotional roller-coaster), and have slowly been posting them on the blog ~ you can click the “My Writing” tab at the top if you want to see them all.

I didn’t really write this poem about self care, but reading it now reminds me that it’s important to take a break–not every time things get hard, but consistently–be present, and conscious about what’s going on in our lives. How we’re feeling, who’s there for us, who we’re thinking about, and whether or not we’re doing what we want to be doing, because sometimes we lose sight of the long-term as we’re being overwhelmed by daily life. I’ve definitely been trying to do that more lately, and take more time to myself and my own goals, too.

~ some random clichés that are actually true ~

  • you need to love to be loved
  • you need to love yourself before you can love other people
  • you need to love yourself before you can accept love from other people

Even when it feels like you don’t have a lot, you do. Because no matter what, you’ve always got yourself, and you’re the most important person in your life! And, if you take a look at your life, you’ve got a lot more people who love and care about you than you think ❤

Hope, Happiness, and a Certain Kind of Sadness

Loving is beautiful,

warm,

full of hope and happiness,

But also a certain kind of sadness.

We all get caught up in the whirlwind,

Moving so fast we can’t

be pinned down by

Anyone,

Anything,

As we try our best to fly.

Sometimes we barely move at all,

Lost in our thoughts,

Hoping we don’t fall.

Not realizing,

Instead rationalizing.

Fantasizing.

Analyzing.

But some things we don’t see coming,

No matter how much we plan.

They say it takes a loss

To wake us up from the frost.

And now, I take a look, close,

And see what I’ve always had.

And it feels like I was walking around,

Comatose.

Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful rest of your week! 🙂

<3,
